Want to make 2022 the year you take control of your Osteoarthritis?

Have you stopped doing the things you love or don’t enjoy doing things you used to because of joint pain?

Just recently, there has been a mountain of evidence to show that exercise is recommended over knee or hip surgery in the management of osteoarthritic pain with multiple organisations making exercise their most recommended treatment management strategy.

Are you frustrated by pain and how it can limit your ability to do things you love like walking, gardening or playing with your children and grandchildren. Our clients always tell us how tiring it is dealing with constant aches and pains and just wish there was something that could be done about it.

Thankfully there is! With the support of your Physiotherapist and Exercise Physiologist equipped with most current research and recommendations a plan can be made to help you get back to the things you love as soon as possible!

We believe with education based on the current evidence and a properly designed exercise program we as health professionals have the ability to empower our clients so they can take control of their health and do something really positive for themselves.

A 2017 study found that as little as two 30-60 minute sessions a week for 6 weeks reduced osteoarthritis related pain by up to 27% in participants! Along with this, participants consumption of pain medications went down 32% and took 44% less sick leave! Even more amazingly, 75% of participants in the study DECLINED a total knee replacement following a period of exercise!

There is no surprise that the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) have recently strongest recommendations for the management of hip and knee osteoarthritis is exercise. The RACGP strongly recommend the use of land based exercise to improve pain and function REGARDLESS of age, severity, functional status or level of pain! They also strongly support muscle strengthening through resistance training, walking and almost every other means of getting up and moving.

The RACGP recommend that your exercise program should be individualised so that each person’s capacity and exercise preference can be taken into consideration so that realistic and attainable goals can be established and exercise dosage can be managed.

This is where your Exercise Physiologist and Physiotherapist at EP Physio Plus comes into it, we are hugely passionate about helping you reach your goals and creating individualised exercise programs and helping you to stay motivated throughout your journey to a better life!
